{"id":278366,"date":"2026-06-25T22:17:28","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T22:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/278366\/"},"modified":"2026-06-25T22:17:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-25T22:17:28","slug":"air-canada-flight-medical-emergency-ends-in-boston-diversion-nbc-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/278366\/","title":{"rendered":"Air Canada flight medical emergency ends in Boston diversion \u2013 NBC New York"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Air Canada flight out of Newark Airport en route to Nova Scotia had to make an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcboston.com\/news\/local\/newark-halifax-flight-boston-captain-medical\/3970960\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">emergency diversion to Boston<\/a> when the captain fell ill and had to be pulled out of the cockpit, authorities say.<\/p>\n<p>Air Canada Flight 7664, which had been bound for Halifax, landed safely at Logan International Airport around 2 p.m. Wednesday, after the crew reported a pilot&#8217;s medical emergency, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.<\/p>\n<p>The airline released a statement confirming the captain had a medical &#8220;issue&#8221; in-flight &#8220;and was removed from the flight deck as per safety protocols.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Air Canada said the first officer took control of the aircraft and flew to Boston. Pilots are trained to land safely without a second pilot&#8217;s help, the airline said.<\/p>\n<p>The pilot was taken to a Boston hospital for medical treatment, authorities said, but didn&#8217;t elaborate further on the person&#8217;s condition or the nature of the emergency.<\/p>\n<p>Sixty-one passengers were on the aircraft. Air Canada said it was working to help get customers make new travel arrangements.<\/p>\n<p>Radio communication with the Boston Fire Department indicated the pilot was &#8220;incapacitated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The pilot is being manned, the flight is being manned by the co-pilot.
