BROOKLYN (WABC) — Twenty-two alleged gang members are under arrest in connection to a string of violence crimes across Brooklyn and Manhattan.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors say the suspects were responsible for 26 shootings between October 2022 and this year — killing one person and injuring more than 20 others, including three innocent bystanders.<\/p>\n
In one case, surveillance video shows the January 2025 shooting of a 16-year-old boy in an East New York grocery store. Prosecutors say the shooting was being celebrated in a video recorded by the alleged shooter in the getaway car.<\/p>\n
“They’re singing and rapping and celebrating the shooting, they had a successful hunt,” said Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. “Four guys in the car, all armed, all celebrating that they think they’ve just killed a 16-year-old boy in the grocery store.”<\/p>\n
On Thursday morning, Gonzalez announced the arrests and gang takedown of 22 men in 26 separate shootings. He said 56 guns were seized.<\/p>\n
“These men, it’s 17 of the 22 have actually pulled the trigger,” Gonzalez said. “Some of those 17 have pulled the trigger on multiple occasions.”<\/p>\n
One of those occasions includes a mass shooting at a Sweet 16 party<\/a> in December that left six teens injured.<\/p>\n Surveillance video released on Thursday shows the alleged shooters fire off more than 20 rounds into the crowd.<\/p>\n Gov. Kathy Hochul was on hand for the milestone announcement.<\/p>\n “This is your third major takedown just in a few months, so unbelievable, unbelievable work that’s being done here,” Hochul said. “And this, the 22 dangerous criminals who’ve committed horrible crimes.”<\/p>\n The district attorney’s office zeroed in on a small group that they say is responsible for 60% of gun violence in the borough.<\/p>\n “And they’re proud of this, see this is the part that may not be understandable to ordinary New Yorkers,” Gonzalez said. “They want to take credit for these shootings.
