Photo by Gus Saltonstall.<\/p>\n<p>By Gus Saltonstall<\/p>\n<p>An Upper West Side building that most recently served as home to a financially embattled private school is set to sell to a different neighborhood institution for tens of millions of dollars, as first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-06-25\/nyc-classical-christian-school-wins-uws-campus-for-33-million\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported by Bloomberg.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevaschool.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Geneva School of Manhattan,<\/a> a \u201cclassical Christian school,\u201d according to its website, currently located at 138 West 90th Street, is purchasing Manhattan Country School\u2019s former six-floor building at 150 West 85th Street, between Amsterdam and Columbus, court records show.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan Country School permanently closed in 2025 after declaring bankruptcy. According to a court filing on Thursday, bankruptcy advisers selected Geneva School of Manhattan\u2019s $33.2 million bid to purchase the West 85th Street building.<\/p>\n<p>The bid still needs to be approved by a New York state bankruptcy judge, which is expected to take place.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the sale of the building are expected to be used by Manhattan Country School to pay off nearly $30 million in debt.<\/p>\n<p>Manhattan Country School opened in 1966 with a guiding principle of \u201cradical love\u201d and a mission of providing its students with academic excellence, intellectual freedom, social awareness, confidence, and first-hand knowledge of the natural world, according to its website.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the transaction, Geneva School of Manhattan was founded in 1996 and bills itself as \u201cthe only classical Christian school in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur approach blends the enduring elements of classical learning and the eternal message of Scripture within the context of a supportive and vibrant community,\u201d reads an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.genevaschool.net\/corevalues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">\u201cAbout\u201d page<\/a> on Geneva\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>It is not immediately clear what Geneva School plans to do with the new building if the sale is approved.<\/p>\n<p>Subscribe to West Side Rag\u2019s FREE email newsletter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/westsiderag.us6.list-manage.com\/subscribe?u=5772ebf2a0a585445f1188785&amp;id=f50755d5f9\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.
