Visits will rotate among facility types, including state prisons, local jails, and youth and women’s facilities.

“This rule keeps judges better connected to what transpires after sentencing. It deepens a judge’s firsthand understanding of prison conditions and the broad impact of incarceration on individuals, families, and communities, as well as the opportunities available during incarceration,” Chief Judge Rowan D. Wilson said.

The new Part 17 will take effect Jan. 1, 2028, to allow sufficient time for successful implementation, which will include a new judicial orientation and education program and significant logistical planning.

Listen to this article Officials of the New York State Unified Court System have announced amendments to Part…

[6
16886,68718,28311,107301,9,11,10,49,51,50,107302,107303,8098,107304
post-279243","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-corrections","tag-detention-facility","tag-incarceration","tag-judicial-visits","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-new-york-state","tag-new-york-state-headlines","tag-new-york-state-news","tag-new-york-state-unified-court-system","tag-part-17","tag-prison","tag-prison-conditions
["GET
