Hundreds of artists lost their work when flames and the water used to fight them gutted the gallery<\/p>\n
\u201cHow can we have this event without using it in a way that is going to help some of our friends, people that we support, and that\u2019s what we do,\u201d Gabrielle Napolitano from the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been devastated,\u201d Vice President of BWAC Sandy Forrest said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRed Hook is a big community. We\u2019re a very close-knit community,\u201d BWAC President Alicia Degener said.<\/p>\n
A few weeks ago, members were allowed inside the building.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe place was full of black mold and soot. It\u2019s not a healthy place to be,\u201d Degener said.<\/p>\n
Members expect to be able to enter the building in the coming weeks to recover artwork.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to start over, and it\u2019s going to be better than it was before,\u201d Forrest said.<\/p>\n
