{"id":280743,"date":"2026-06-28T23:10:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-28T23:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/280743\/"},"modified":"2026-06-28T23:10:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T23:10:31","slug":"boy-16-arrested-for-stabbing-recent-high-school-grad-to-death-in-brooklyn-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/280743\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy, 16, arrested for stabbing recent high school grad to death in Brooklyn park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A young man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2026\/06\/27\/man-dead-another-critically-injured-double-stabbing-brooklyn-park\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">stabbed to death<\/a> in a Brooklyn park was days away from celebrating his high school graduation at a family party \u2014 and a 16-year-old boy was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/nypd\/news\/PR009\/nypd-fewest-murders-shooting-incidents-shooting-victims-recorded-history-the\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arrested Sunday for his murder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manuel Estanislao Chox Choc was stabbed in the chest inside Dyker Beach Park near 86th St. and 14th Ave. in Dyker Heights just before 2 p.m. Saturday, police said. His 30-year-old uncle was also stabbed but survived.<\/p>\n<p>Medics rushed both men to Maimonides Medical Center, where Chox Choc, 21, died, police said. His uncle is expected to recover.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were with them yesterday in the hospital,\u201d said a 13-year-old friend who asked not to be named.<\/p>\n<p>Chox Choc\u2019s family was \u201cdevastated,\u201d he added. \u201cThey were crying. The couldn\u2019t stop crying. They can\u2019t accept that he died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A 16-year-old boy taken into custody at the scene was charged Sunday afternoon with murder, attempted murder and weapon possession, authorities said. Police did not release his name because he is underage.<\/p>\n<p>Chox Choc immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala about four years ago to attend high school, according to family friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would always see him go to high school,\u201d the friend said. \u201cHe would always work. I would teach him how to speak English. I would always help him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chox Choc was \u201cvery sweet,\u201d said a woman who identified herself by her first name, Maria, 39. \u201cHe just wanted a better future here and he was still studying,\u201d Maria said. \u201cHe\u2019s a nice person. Christian person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted a nice career and he wanted to help his father\u201d back in Guatemala, who is deaf, Maria said.<\/p>\n<p>Chox Choc was getting ready to celebrate his high school graduation this week. \u201cThe house was all decorated\u201d for a party, Maria said.<\/p>\n<p>Chox Choc and his uncle were playing soccer in the park when they were attacked, family friends said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey went to play soccer because they like soccer in the morning,\u201d said Arturo Menchu, 51, a family friend who works in construction with Chox Choc\u2019s uncle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey got attacked by two men with masks. They had masks on,\u201d Menchu said in a mix of English and Spanish. \u201cThey stabbed both of them and then they left with a motorcycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Menchu visited Chox Choc\u2019s uncle in the hospital Saturday night. He had surgery and is recuperating, according to Menchu. \u201cRight now he\u2019s stable and the doctor said he\u2019s going to be all right,\u201d Menchu said.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they are looking into the possibility the attack was gang related but a motive has not been determined.<\/p>\n<p>Family friends do not believe Chox Choc had any gang ties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cManuel is not a bad person.
