(PIX11) \u2014 In many different spots around New York City, it was a post-Pride Parade after-party to remember.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Atop the Arlo Nomad Hotel in Midtown, in the shadow of the Empire State Building, the drinks were flowing and the music was inviting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Stay connected with community stories that matter: Visit our homepage;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;Stay connected with community stories that matter&quot;}\"> Stay connected with community stories that matter: Visit our homepage <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">But those celebrating were also remembering the decades of struggle for gay rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThere was a time where teachers were in danger of losing their jobs because they were gay,\u201c Paul Ducett, a Pride marcher, told PIX11 News. \u201cThere were babies that were being taken away from same-sex couples. Couples and partners were not allowed to go into the hospital,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Another person attending the Arlo party, Vanessa Devillez, told PIX11 News: \u201cI was one of the couples. I\u2019m not a couple anymore who fought for same-sex marriages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At Pride Fest on Fourth Avenue, billed as the largest LGBTQIA+ festival in the world, there was lots of fabulous food and fun, but also a serious side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:More Local News;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;context_link&quot;,&quot;yModuleName&quot;:&quot;content-canvas&quot;,&quot;yLinkText&quot;:&quot;More Local News&quot;}\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s not just a party, but it\u2019s to celebrate the history of our ancestors are trans ancestors, who fought for our rights to love who we want to love,\u201d Tyrie, a PrideFest attendee, told PIX11 News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In front of the Stonewall Inn, where the 1969 riots sparked the gay rights movement, the 83-year-old head of security welcomed these super large crowds because the gay rights struggle is ongoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt makes me happy. It makes me feel good that people appreciate Stonewall and what we believe in,\u201d Diana Rapp, head of security for the Stonewall Inn, told PIX11 News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThis is where it started, and I feel so honored to be in New York,\u201d Charlie\u00a0 Byrd, a Stonewall visitor, told PIX11 News. \u201c I can be exactly who I am and it makes me very happy,\u201d Byrd added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
