American model Emira D\u2019Spain became the first full-time trans cast member of a Bravo show after joining Next Gen NYC<\/a> last year.<\/p>\n

The reality series premiered in June 2025, and follows the children of several Bravo stars as well as newcomers like Emira D\u2019Spain. Bravo explained: \u201cNext Gen NYC follows a tangled web of friends raised in the spotlight \u2014 or at least close enough for good lighting \u2014 as they stumble into adulthood one brunch, breakup and spontaneous decision at a time.\u201d It returned for its second season earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Emira D\u2019Spain, 29, was joined by Bravo newcomers Shai Fruchter,\u00a0Georgia McCann, and\u00a0Charlie Zakkour.<\/p>\n

Real Housewives\u00a0children\u00a0Gia Giudice,\u00a0Ariana Biermann,\u00a0Brooks Marks, and\u00a0Riley Burruss also star, and their parents also appear in the series. Alongside them were be Ava Dash, the daughter of Damon Dash and Rachel Roy, and\u00a0Ariana\u2019s then-boyfriend, Hudson McLeroy. Rowan Hency and Liam Obergfoll joined for season two.<\/p>\n

Posting about her casting on Instagram in April 2025, D\u2019Spain wrote: \u201ctime to be messy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next Gen NYC certainly is messy. During one group dinner in season one, things got a little tense for Gia, Brooks, and Ariana. At one point Gia said: \u201cShut the f*** up.\u201d Meanwhile, Ariana called Brooks out for being \u201ca d***\u201d.<\/p>\n

Dramas also unfold over money, fashion, and family. <\/p>\n

Emira D\u2019Spain\u2019s casting represents a new milestone for the reality-TV network. Until now, restaurant hostess, Billie Lee, had the biggest role on a Bravo show held by a trans person. As a part-time cast member on\u00a0Vanderpump Rules, she appeared in 10 episodes before leaving the show in 2019.<\/p>\n

Responding to Newsweek<\/a> about D\u2019Spain\u2019s casting, a Bravo spokesperson said: \u201cIt was important for Next Gen NYC to highlight the diversity and authenticity of this generation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who is Emira D\u2019Spain?<\/p>\n

The model and influencer is originally from Dubai but was raised in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from New York University and secured a job as Paper Magazine\u2019s beauty director. <\/p>\n

She previously worked with Victoria\u2019s Secret and was the first Black transgender model for the brand<\/a>. WWD<\/a> reports she has also modelled for Fenty Beauty, Ugg, Anastasia Beverly Hills and NARS Cosmetics.<\/p>\n

A bio for D\u2019Spain on the Bravo website<\/a> reads: \u201cAmbitious, driven and always two steps ahead, Emira lives life on her own terms and never apologizes for her success. She usually stays above the fray when drama unfolds, but this summer, balancing romance and friendship loyalties might disrupt her perfectly planned hustle.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2022 she appeared in Galore magazine where she was referred to as TikTok\u2019s \u2018It Girl\u2019, though she\u2019s said she\u2019s struggled with how to effectively use social media in the past. Newsweek reports her as saying: \u201cPart of me goes back and forth where I feel like I\u2019m not doing enough for my community, and then sometimes when I feel like my transness plays too big of a role on my platforms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never want my page to solely be about being trans because it\u2019s just one part of my life. That being said, I still want to lift my community up and champion them always. So I don\u2019t know yet\u2014I\u2019m still finding a way to accomplish that perfect balance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next Gen NYC airs on Bravo, and is available to stream outside the US on Hayu.<\/p>\n
