{"id":281291,"date":"2026-06-29T17:08:38","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T17:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/281291\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T17:08:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T17:08:38","slug":"celebrating-beat-street-records-a-hip-hop-mecca-in-brooklyn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/281291\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Beat Street Records, a Hip-Hop Mecca in Brooklyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long before streaming platforms and social media reshaped the industry, Beat Street in Downtown Brooklyn was the cultural epicenter of Hip-Hop in the borough.<\/p>\n<p>DJs, record collectors, and Hip-Hop enthusiasts reunited on Sunday to celebrate the legacy of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Entertainment_News\/2006\/12\/19\/Iconic-rap-record-store-in-Brooklyn-closes\/51401166574267\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beat Street Records<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/scales.nyc\/?hl=en\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ScalesNYC<\/a> in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p>Once located on Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn just across from Albee Square Mall, Beat Street was much more than a record store. It was one of the most important Hip-Hop vinyl hubs in New York during the 1990s and early 2000s. It was a gathering place for DJs, producers, collectors, MCs, and Hip-Hop fans looking for music that wasn\u2019t available in mainstream stores.<\/p>\n<p>With the decline of vinyl and CD sales during the digital music boom, Beat Street closed its doors in 2006. Although the store\u00a0is gone, its influence continues to resonate throughout Brooklyn\u2019s music community.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"6927a4a1-fd05-4f3e-94da-148bea457d19\" id=\"file-4437083\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6927a4a1-fd05-4f3e-94da-148bea457d19.jpeg;w=960.jpeg\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\nBeat Street Records Crew . Photo: Kris Julien for BK Reader&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The event featured music that reflected Beat Street\u2019s golden era with DJs spinning classic Hip-Hop, soul, and reggae records that once filled the store\u2019s speakers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"d8a97941-0996-4746-bfc3-db99e54d38c5\" id=\"file-4437087\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/d8a97941-0996-4746-bfc3-db99e54d38c5.jpeg;w=960.jpeg\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n.
