MS NOW\u2019s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski blasted Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) for not denouncing a controversial Mamdani-endorsed democratic socialist<\/a> \u2013 urging Dems to \u201ccall out crazy\u201d within their own party.<\/p>\n

During MS NOW\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press\u201d Sunday, Murphy feigned ignorance when he was asked about Darializa Avila Chevalier, the contentious House candidate who called former President Joe Biden a \u201crapist\u201d and \u201cwar criminal\u201d and questioned Israel\u2019s right to exist in since-deleted social media posts.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, well, I mean, I\u2019m not super familiar with that race. All I\u2019m saying is that this party has to have a real contest of ideas and I just don\u2019t think that our defense of incrementalism has worked, so I don\u2019t mind a contest of ideas,\u201d Murphy told MS NOW fill-in host Ryan Nobles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will say, though, what binds together I think every Democratic candidate that is running, including the ones in New York, is that they are standing up to protect American democracy, and right now, the biggest threat to this country are not a handful of House candidates in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a tweet Sunday, Scarborough slammed Murphy for not taking a stand against the contentious left-winger \u2013 accusing Dems who refuse to criticize their own party of hypocrisy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMemo to Democrats: Call out crazy even when it\u2019s on your side \u2013 especially when it\u2019s on your side. Voters will reward you for being better than Republicans,\u201d he wrote, adding: \u201cBe better than Trump\u2019s cowards.\u201d<\/p>\n

During MS NOW\u2019s \u201cMorning Joe\u201d Monday, Brzezinski also slammed Murphy\u2019s weak comments \u2013 accusing him of \u201cgaslighting\u201d American voters.<\/p>\n

\u201cVoters are gonna have to decide where the line is, what\u2019s the deal breaker,\u201d she said. \u201cIn this case, I think it\u2019s pretty clear. Some of these statements are complete deal breakers and it\u2019s not hard to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brzezinski said \u201cone of the most frustrating things\u201d is when people who repeatedly voted for President Trump \u201cact shocked about the cruelty of the mass deportations\u201d or \u201cact shocked about the tariffs,\u201d claiming they haven\u2019t been watching the news.<\/p>\n

MS NOW\u2019s Mika Brzezinski accused Sen. Chris Murphy of \u201cgaslighting\u201d voters by pretending not to know about the contentious NYC race. MS NOW<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is the most gaslighting experience one can ever, ever see \u2026 because pretending you haven\u2019t seen it is impossible. It\u2019s an out, and now to see a Democrat doing it \u2013 and we both love Chris Murphy, we think he\u2019s a great guy and serves our country, but don\u2019t gaslight people,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Avila Chevalier, 32, recently defeated incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat in the Dem primary race for the seat covering Uptown Manhattan and part of the Bronx, after Mayor Zohran Mamdani endorsed her bid.<\/p>\n

Following her shocking victory, the contentious left-winger told MS NOW\u2019s Ali Velshi that she \u201cregrets\u201d the hundreds of social media posts she made between 2018 and 2022, admitting they caused \u201ca lot of division\u201d during her campaign.<\/p>\n

In those posts, Avila Chevalier wrote \u201cf\u2013k Kamala Harris,\u201d slammed Sen. Bernie Sanders\u2019 \u201cliberal Zionism,\u201d condemned interracial relationships and called for abolishing the police, prisons and borders, as well as the seizing of private property.<\/p>\n

She also questioned Israel\u2019s right to exist and attended a pro-Palestinian protest<\/a> the day after Hamas attacked Israel, where some attendees reportedly suggested the attack was justified.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Former New York City Comptroller and House candidate Brad Lander, who won his own New York primary, has referred to that rally as \u201cheinous,\u201d saying organizers \u201cspoke about Hamas in ways that I just thought were vile.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"MS NOW\u2019s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski blasted Sen.
