(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 A JetBlue pilot reported striking a drone while flying into New York City on Monday morning, federal officials confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt hit us right above the cockpit,\u201d the pilot can be heard saying in communications with air traffic controllers.<\/p>\n

The pilot said JetBlue flight 948 collided with the drone at approximately 3,000 feet altitude while approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport at around 7:15 a.m. ET., the Federal Aviation Administration wrote on X<\/a>. The pilot told air traffic control it was about 10-12 miles before landing.<\/p>\n

A post-flight inspection didn\u2019t reveal any damage to the plane, but the FAA said it will continue investigating. \u201cThis information is preliminary and subject to change,\u201d the agency added.<\/p>\n

The plane had departed from Las Vegas before the crew \u201creported a possible drone encounter during the aircraft\u2019s final approach into New York,\u201d JetBlue wrote in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe flight landed without incident, customers deplaned normally, and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision,\u201d according to the statement. \u201cSafety is JetBlue\u2019s first priority, and we will assist with any relevant investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n
