A 25-year-old man was injured after being bucked off a bull and then stomped on by the animal during a rodeo event in the Bronx on Sunday evening, according to police.<\/p>\n
Video shows the man being thrown and attacked by the animal as spectators watch in horror.<\/p>\n
Among the crowd was Melanie Ayala, an off-duty Brooklyn EMT, who realized she had to spring into action.<\/p>\n
“It wasn’t until the announcer got on the mic and started telling people to stop recording people because it was serious and instead to use their phones to call the ambulance, that I realized that something happened,” Ayala said.<\/p>\n
She said that she realized there must not have been any medical staff available if the announcer was asking for an ambulance.<\/p>\n
Ayala stopped the bleeding with her bare hands.<\/p>\n
The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. at 2701 Bruner Ave., at an event called “Rodeo Tierra Caliente.”<\/p>\n
According to the event\u2019s website, it is described as the No. 1 company for Jaripeos Rancheros \u2013 a traditional Mexican equestrian and bull-riding event. They also host similar events across this country.<\/p>\n
Neighbors told News 12 they couldn’t believe there was a rodeo in the borough.<\/p>\n
“Would you believe that there was a bull in the middle of here running around, the people come out with the cowboy hats,” Baychester resident Prince Easy said, “it’s a whole different kind of culture that I never thought I would see right here in the Bronx, and it’s beautiful.”<\/p>\n
There’s another rodeo at the same site set to take place on July 11 – according to the organizer’s website.<\/p>\n
Police officials say the bull has been secured and the bull rider was taken to Jacobi Medical Center.
