\u00a0<\/p>\n
The NYPD had previously released photos on June 9 of two persons of interest who had been sought for questioning following the fatal shooting, and had asked the public for help identifying them. One police source told Norwood News at the time the NYPD were searching for two people who had fled the scene after the shooting<\/a>.<\/p>\n A police spokesperson said Monday, June 8, that the NYPD had responded to a 911 call received at 00.08 a.m. on the Monday for a report of an assault at the intersection of East 207th Street and Decatur Avenue.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On Tuesday, June 9, police said it was later reported to them that on Sunday, June 7, at around 11.54 p.m. in front of 366 East 207th Street, two unidentified people produced guns and had shot the 23-year-old male victim multiple times, causing his death. They said the two then fled on foot to parts unknown.<\/p>\n They said the first person of interest was described as male, and had last been seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a blue medical mask. They said the second person of interest was also described as male, and had last been seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a black face mask.<\/p>\n P.S. 56 is located at the corner of Decatur Avenue and East 207th Street, close to the crime scene which was on East 207th Street between Decatur Avenue and Parkside Place.<\/p>\n On the Monday morning, a police spokesperson said, \u201cUpon arrival, officers observed a 23-year-old male with multiple gunshots wounds to the torso. EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests at this time and the investigation is ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n According to one police source who spoke to Norwood News on the Monday morning, the NYPD had been looking for two males who they said had fled the location in a black BMW sedan northbound on Parkside Avenue [Place]. The motive or circumstances leading up to the shooting were unknown at the time, according to the police source.<\/p>\n The deceased was later identified as Purvis of the Forest Houses section of the South Bronx.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n At the crime scene, East 207th Street was blocked off between Decatur Avenue and Parkside Place. One young person, who was later joined by two of his friends and a parent, and who said he did not see the shooting, explained that he heard around three shots fired when he was further away at a Laundromat on Decatur Avenue, closer to East 204th Street.<\/p>\n He said around 6 minutes later, as he was walking back towards Parkside Place, he came across the victim lying on the street face down.\u00a0 He said when he found the victim, he and his friends called the police.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The youth said the victim\u2019s phone rang while they were waiting for emergency services to arrive and he believes it was the victim\u2019s wife \/ partner. She asked about the victim and the youth who found him said he told the woman, \u201cI think he\u2019s dead.\u201d He said the woman was distraught.<\/p>\n The youth indicated that there was blood on the victim\u2019s shoulder \/ arm and he estimated that he was around 25. One other male resident said he heard gunfire from inside his home earlier but had thought it was fireworks.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A police official at the scene was heard referring to the number eight, possibly referring to gunshots. Detectives were later seen interviewing the group of youths who discovered the victim.<\/p>\n On June 9, on releasing photos of the suspects, police had said the\u00a0first suspect was described as male, and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a blue medical mask.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n They said the second suspect was also described as male and was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and a black face mask.<\/p>\n Speaking in Spanish, another male resident commented, \u201cIt\u2019s very rare for something like this to happen here. It\u2019s a good neighborhood with hardworking people. It\u2019s unusual to see the police here.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On Monday, June 29, police said a 22-year-old woman had been arrested in connection to the incident, pursuant to an ongoing investigation. V6 Video by S\u00edle Moloney<\/p>\n On Wednesday, June 17, in the University Heights section of The Bronx, a 79-year-old woman and another man were shot<\/a> on West 183rd Street.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n On June 21, as reported<\/a>, two people were arrested after an NYPD sergeant was hit with a car, other officers were injured and a civilian driver was shot by a police officer on Fordham Road. The following day, June 22, in nearby Belmont, on the border with Fordham, a 21-year-old man was shot dead at point blank range on East 187th Street, as\u00a0reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Major crime statistics for both the 52nd Precinct, which covers Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham Manor, Kingsbridge Heights, Jerome Park, Bronx Park and University Heights as of June 21 are attached.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The year-to-date crime statistics for the nearby 46th Precinct, which covers some or all of Fordham, University Heights, Morris Heights and Mt.
