Garry Starr: Classic Penguins, written and performed by Damien Warren-Smith, will make its U.S. premiere Off-Broadway in the fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following sold-out\u00a0engagements in London\u2019s West End, Sydney, Melbourne, and the Edinburgh Fringe, the five-week run\u00a0will play Studio Seaview\u00a0September 3\u2013October 4. Opening night is scheduled for September 8. (Warren-Smith is currently performing Classic Penguins in Sydney, Australia, through July 5, and will return to Edinburgh Fringe August 5\u201320, prior to opening in New York.)<\/p>\n
In the solo show, Garry Starr is hell-bent on saving books from extinction by performing every Penguin Classic novel ever written in under an hour, (mostly) naked.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Warren-Smith’s debut solo show,\u00a0Garry Starr Performs Everything, was nominated for both Best Newcomer and The Golden Gibbo at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival as well as a string of U.K. awards. His follow-up, Greece Lightning, picked up awards in Adelaide, Sydney, Gothenburg, and Manchester.\u00a0He studied acting at Actors Centre Australia in Sydney, clowning at
\n\u00c9cole Philippe Gaulier in Paris, and corporeal mime at Atelier des Mimes
\n in Berlin.<\/p>\n
The creative team includes\u00a0director Cal McCrystal, scenic designer Takis, and lighting designer Lily Woodford-Lewis. Hudson Theatrical Associates<\/a> serves as production supervisor with Seaview\u2019s Jonathan Whitton<\/a> as general manager.<\/p>\n The U.S. premiere is produced by\u00a0Francesca Moody Productions<\/a>,\u00a0Seaview, and\u00a0Mark Gordon Pictures<\/a>\u00a0in association with MILKE.<\/p>\n
