While many New Yorkers are trying to beat the heat and keep cool, residents in Red Hook say they\u2019re frustrated because their public pool is temporarily closed.<\/p>\n
A Parks Department spokesperson told News 12 on Tuesday that the filter plant beneath the pool flooded and damaged the equipment.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson added that park employees made the discovery on June 25.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been wanting to go to this pool for a really long time, but eventually my mom just said we\u2019re going to have to find somewhere else and go there,\u201d said 11-year-old Jerry Dieudonne.<\/p>\n
The Red Hook Pool had another mechanical issue last year — and it did not open until August.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel like nobody cares about us,\u201d said Margarita Valcarsel, of Red Hook. \u201cWe don\u2019t know what to do because we don\u2019t want to go so far away because it\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spray showers at the public pool are open, but Dieudonne and his 9-year-old brother, Jayce, want to keep cool in the pool.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this point, it\u2019s not going to open anytime soon,\u201d said Jerry.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really hot, and you have a chance of getting heat stroke,\u201d said Jayce.<\/p>\n
