NEW YORK (WABC) – Authorities in New York say human remains were discovered inside the chimney of a school in Queens on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
Police said they received a 911 call regarding possible remains found at P.S.\/I.S. 113 Anthony J. Pranzo after a janitor reported smelling a foul odor coming from the chimney. <\/p>\n
Upon arrival, investigators confirmed locating human remains. <\/p>\n
Authorities said that an exterminator was first called to investigate and found a shoe and what appeared to be a person\u2019s foot before officers were contacted. <\/p>\n
Officials said no students or staff were present at the time, with school being let out for the summer last week, but there has been ongoing construction.<\/p>\n
The school has been closed for repair work over the summer, so it has mainly just been contractors present, officials noted. <\/p>\n
Detectives said they are checking with contractors to see if they know anything and whether any of their people are missing.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the medical examiner\u2019s office will determine the person\u2019s identity and cause of death.<\/p>\n
