NEW YORK, N.Y. \u2014 New York is among 17 states reporting cases of cyclosporiasis, a foodborne illness now under federal investigation.<\/p>\n
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says at least 145 people nationwide<\/a> have gotten sick with cyclosporiasis since May 1. That includes between 31 and 80 people in New York State.<\/p>\n Cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness, comes from several species of a microscopic parasite, Cyclospora. Symptoms include watery diarrhea and gastrointestinal discomfort.<\/p>\n The CDC says most patients did not travel before symptoms began. So far, 20 people have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.
