NEW YORK (WBNG) — The New York State of Health is extending the deadline for applications for its Essential Plan Cooling Program.<\/p>\n
As a result of the current heat wave, applications will be accepted until Monday, July 6th, at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
The Essential Plan Cooling Program, geared toward consumers with health conditions that are made worse by extreme heat, is funded through New York\u2019s 1332 Waiver<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to NYSH\u2019s website<\/a>, environmental factors such as extreme heat, allergens and poor air quality can significantly worsen certain symptoms. Air conditioning can help keep air cool and clean.<\/p>\n Under the program, NYSH will provide eligible Essential Plan members with a free air conditioner to help keep their homes cool and lessen health risks linked to rising temperatures. The air conditioner will be delivered and installed by an NYSH-designated vendor.<\/p>\n This program is available to Essential Plan members throughout New York State who experience one or more of the listed qualifying conditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n Air conditioning units are available to Essential Plan members on a first-come, first-served basis.<\/p>\n If your application is approved, you may receive one cooling unit per eligible individual every five years.
