(Queens, NY \u2013 July 1, 2026) NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) Commissioner Paul A. Ochoa and NYC Health Department Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin announced today the completion of a $10.7 million renovation project for the Corona Health Center in Queens. DDC managed the project, which was completed weeks ahead of schedule, for the Health Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccess to local health care is vital, and these upgrades make Corona Health Center a much more inviting and comfortable space for patients who are there for these services, as well as staff,\u201d said NYC Department of Design and Construction Commissioner Paul A. Ochoa. \u201cThis $10.7 million project made major upgrades inside and outside the building, including a new ADA-accessible ramp and lobby, new skylights for more natural light, a restored fa\u00e7ade and roof, and more. This Center, located in the heart of Corona, is very important to the community, so we made sure services continued during construction work and we finished nearly a month in advance. I thank the DDC team, our contractor, designer and our partners at DOHMH for delivering this project as fast as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

DDC managed a $10.7 million project by DOHMH that added a new ADA-accessible ramp and expanded lobby to the Corona Health Center in Queens<\/p>\n
The Corona Health Center, located at 34-33 Junction Boulevard, is a three-story building that was originally built in 1939. The health center is home to the Health Department\u2019s Sexual Health Clinic and NYC Health + Hospitals\/Gotham Health, Jackson Heights, an outpatient clinic offering primary care for children and adults.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The project restored the stairs and added an ADA-accessible ramp in front of the building. Additionally, the Center\u2019s main lobby was expanded and is now ADA-compliant; it was also renovated with upgraded finishes and lighting. The building\u2019s fa\u00e7ade, windows, and 13 doors in the Center were restored. The building\u2019s roof was replaced and two new skylights were added to enhance interior natural lighting. Building systems, including HVAC, fire alarm with new fire alarm control panel, security alarm systems, and electrical panel with associated circuit breakers, were also upgraded. Work also included the installation of security lighting around the exterior of the building. The Center\u2019s main metallic signage was restored and other signage was added throughout the building.<\/p>\n
DDC worked with ikon.5 architects and Seabreeze General Construction for this project.<\/p>\n
NYC Health Department Sexual Health Clinics<\/a> provide low-to-no-cost confidential services for peoples ages 12 and older, regardless of immigration or health insurance status. At the Corona Sexual Health Clinic, New Yorkers can receive sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening, testing, and treatment; birth control and emergency contraception and HPV, hep A, hep B, mpox, and meningitis vaccinations. The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n The project also restored the fa\u00e7ade and signage, added security lighting, fixed the roof, and other upgrades<\/p>\n \u201cPeople with disabilities experience health inequities due to inaccessible facilities, information, and care,\u201d said NYC Mayor\u2019s Office for People with Disabilities Commissioner Nisha Agarwal. \u201cToday\u2019s announcement is another step towards improving health care accessibility for New Yorkers with disabilities.
