MARION COUNTY NOW<\/a>)\u2014 Marion County Fair held its royalty contests on Monday, June 29th, and a new King and Queen have been crowned.\u00a0<\/p>\nTaking on the role of King is 17-year-old Jorden Buckland. Buckland is an incoming senior at River Valley and is a part of River Valley FFA and Echoing Hoofs 4-H Club. At the fair, he shows his 24-year-old horse as well as two sheep.<\/p>\n
Buckland chose to run because he wants to be a leader and a role model for other kids. He hopes to inspire others to run as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was the only one that ran this year, and last year, when I ran for Prince, I was the only one that ran too. So I\u2019m just trying to get more people involved in running for royalty.\u201d<\/p>\n
His advice for others who wish to do so in the future is to enjoy the moment, go to sleep at a good time, and to not stress too much about stuff.<\/p>\n
He would also like to thank his grandma for helping take care of his horse while at the royalty contest, as well as everyone at the Marion County Fair.<\/p>\n
The newly crowned Queen is Anna LaBarge. LaBarge is 18 years old and is a recent graduate of River Valley.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She is a member of River Valley FFA as well as Richland Hayseeds 4-H Club. At the fair, LaBarge shows steers as well as goats.<\/p>\n
She chose to run because she grew up looking up to all of the queens that came before her.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt just really means a lot to me that I get to mentor the younger people coming up, and it just is a blessing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Her advice for those who wish to run in the future is to just do it because it builds confidence in ways that would never be known.<\/p>\n
She wants to thank her parents, siblings, as well as god for giving her this opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
