Con Edison is asking customers in the northwest section of the Bronx, and the northern tip of Manhattan to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment. Con Edison officials said it has reduced voltage by 8 percent in both areas to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are made.<\/p>\n

They said the affected area in The Bronx includes 39,600 customers and is bounded by the Westchester County line on the north, the Harlem River on the south, the Hudson River on the west, and Sedgwick Avenue and the Bronx River on the east. They said it includes parts, or all, of the neighborhoods of Riverdale, Marble Hill, Kingsbridge, and Van Cortlandt Park.<\/p>\n

They said the affected area in Manhattan is bounded by West 155th Street on the south and stretches to the Harlem River on the north. They said it\u2019s bounded by the Hudson River on the west and the Harlem River on the east. They said the area includes 75,200 customers in the Inwood, Hudson Heights and Washington Heights neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

Officials said the equipment problems in the two areas have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system.\u00a0Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. Officials said the company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature,\u201d they said. The company, which officials said is in communication with NYC Emergency Management, also asks that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles in these neighborhoods, except when necessary, while repairs are made.<\/p>\n

They said customers can report outages and check service restoration statuses at www.conEd.com\/reportoutage<\/a>, or with their mobile app for iOS<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0Android<\/a>\u00a0devices,\u00a0or by calling 1-800-75-CONED\u00a0(1-800-752-6633).\u00a0When\u00a0calling, customers should\u00a0report whether their neighbors have also lost power.\u00a0Customers who report outages will receive updates with their estimated restoration times as they become available.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
