The NYPD said three teens are recovering after they were beaten and stabbed during a brazen attack behind DeWitt Clinton High School on Thursday, June 18. They said five masked assailants are being sought in connection with the incident. It is not the first slashing<\/a> to take place on the campus.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n According to the NYPD, the attack was reported in a 911 call at 2:16 p.m. on June 18 and the location given was behind the school, which is located at 100 West Mosholu Parkway South in Bedford Park.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n A police spokesperson told Norwood News, \u201cUpon arrival of police to the scene, a preliminary investigation determined that five males, all wearing black ski masks, assaulted three victims causing serious physical injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n The spokesperson said a 17-year-old male was stabbed once in the torso, a second 17-year-old male suffered a laceration to the top of his head and bruising to the back, and the third victim, a 19-year-old male was stabbed in the lower back. Police said all three young men were transported by EMS to area hospitals \u201cconscious and alert.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The police official added that the five male suspects fled the location in unknown directions and a knife was recovered at the scene. \u201cNo arrests have been made at this time and the investigation remains ongoing,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n NYC Department of Education (DOE) issued a brief statement on the incident, saying, \u201cThis senseless act of violence is deeply concerning. School staff and NYPD School Safety Agents immediately responded to an incident today following all protocols. We are grateful that no student was seriously hurt, and we are conducting a full investigation in partnership with the NYPD.\u201d<\/p>\n The stabbing comes less than a week after nearby Bronx High School of Science on West 205th Street was evacuated after the school received a bomb threat<\/a>\u00a0left on an answering machine on Friday, June 12. The building was evacuated but no device was found.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Norwood News attempted to follow up with the DOE as their statement contradicted the NYPD\u2019s statement, which said that the victims did indeed suffer \u201cserious physical injuries.\u201d We\u00a0also asked if the attack took place in the parking lot behind the school or on the school\u2019s running track known as Governors Field, and if surveillance video captured the incident. The DOE did not immediately respond to the additional questions.<\/p>\n On Sunday, June 22, an NYPD School Safety patrol van was parked in front of the school as a private group held a soccer event on Governors Field at Alumni Park behind the school. The event organizers were unaware of the attack days earlier. No school safety agents or NYPD officers were observed behind the school during the brief visit.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n One young man headed to the soccer event said after learning of the attack, \u201cThings like that always happen at this school.\u201d The young man added that he was a recent graduate of nearby Walton High School.<\/p>\n On Monday, June 22, Norwood News also sought comment from the school\u2019s parent coordinator, Crystal Alvarado. However, the email contact given on the school\u2019s website for Alvarado was rejected as a bad address.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n DeWitt Clinton High School was founded as an all boys school in Lower Manhattan in 1897 and opened at its current site in 1929. Graduates from the school include writer James Baldwin, Marvel Comics co-founder Stan Lee, and fashion designer Ralph Lauren.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n In April, Norwood News reported that a teenage girl was stomped on<\/a> in the Williamsbridge Oval park by a group of other teens. In February, in Kingsbridge Heights, two teens were slashed \/ stabbed<\/a> outside a local high school.
