{"id":285395,"date":"2026-07-02T23:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-02T23:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/285395\/"},"modified":"2026-07-02T23:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-02T23:20:08","slug":"bronx-das-charges-against-gang-members-expose-the-disturbing-trend-of-nys-raise-the-age-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/285395\/","title":{"rendered":"Bronx DA&#8217;s charges against &#8216;gang members&#8217; expose the disturbing trend of NY&#8217;s Raise the Age law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark this week charged 19 reputed gang members with a range of criminal charges, including conspiracy, attempted murder, assault and weapons-related crimes.<\/p>\n<p>And every single one of these thugs, save the leader, was a minor.<\/p>\n<p>Is there more compelling evidence that New York\u2019s Raise the Age law is a horrific failure?<\/p>\n<p>The charges follow a 13-month long investigation into the \u201cMcKillville\u201d gang\u2019s turf war with rivals, which featured all manner of shootings, conspiracies, assaults \u2014 and pure terror for the community.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors say the minors were 14- to 17-year-old boys who older men \u201curged\u201d to \u201celevate themselves\u201d by \u201ccommitting attempted murders and assaults.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tMore From\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPost Editorial Board<\/p>\n<p>Their alleged leader, 28-year-old gang leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/29\/us-news\/baby-faced-street-gang-named-mckillville-waged-yearlong-turf-war-in-working-class-nyc-nabe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Tyreik \u201cTubby\u201d Seth<\/a>,\u00a0even told the kids to shoot rivals, \u201cand they did so,\u201d added Clark, \u201cto win their leader\u2019s favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/07\/19\/raise-the-age-laws-are-making-youth-crime-worse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a downright disturbing trend<\/a>: During the six year after the passage of the Raise the Age law \u2014 which upped the age for criminal responsibility as an adult from 16 to 18 \u2014 the number of juvenile shooters spiked nearly 200%.<\/p>\n<p>The law meant minors would rarely face serious consequences, even for violent crimes, so gang bosses turned to them to do their dirty work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet opinions and commentary from our columnists\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSubscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter!\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Innocent New Yorkers get caught in the crossfire.<\/p>\n<p>Yet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/11\/opinion\/soaring-teen-crime-a-message-for-hochul-fix-raise-the-age-and-save-new-yorks-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">progressives \u2014 and, most shamefully, Gov.
