{"id":285844,"date":"2026-07-03T13:49:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T13:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/285844\/"},"modified":"2026-07-03T13:49:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T13:49:08","slug":"chateaugay-man-accused-of-altering-company-check-for-nearly-19k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/285844\/","title":{"rendered":"Chateaugay man accused of altering company check for nearly $19K"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">CHATEAUGAY, New York (WWNY) &#8211; A Chateaugay man is facing fraud and forgery charges after New York State Police say he altered a company check for nearly $19,000 and cashed it at a Plattsburgh bank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">John Patterson, 42, was arrested July 2, 2026, and charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree and Grand Larceny in the Third Degree.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Troopers responded to County Route 20 in the town of Constable on June 4, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m. for a report of a fraud complaint. An investigation determined Patterson, an employee of Mike\u2019s Barn Painting, altered a company check for $18,961.56 before cashing it at a bank in Plattsburgh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The investigation was conducted in coordination with the bank\u2019s fraud department and the Clinton County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Patterson was arrested and processed at SP Plattsburgh.
