<\/p>\nA wind farm in Queens County will soon power public housing in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n
The province says the agreement with Renewall Energy Inc. will see the company\u2019s Mersey River Wind Project supply renewable energy to public housing by 2027 in a ten-year agreement. <\/p>\n
\u201cNova Scotia is moving forward with practical solutions that lower emissions, protect public dollars and strengthen our energy future,\u201d says Minister of Housing, John White. <\/p>\n
\u201cBy using renewable electricity to power public housing, we are taking action that makes sense for taxpayers and the province.\u201d <\/p>\n
Under the agreement, the province says they will have electricity sent to public housing by Renewall, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 37,000 tonnes annually. <\/p>\n
This means, the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency will reach its legislated emissions reduction target about two years earlier than planned in 2028. <\/p>\n
In addition, it includes a fixed annual price increase of one per cent and two five-year extensions. <\/p>\n
The province says the project will reduce a legislated emissions reduction target two years earlier and will avoid $25 to $50 million in costs based on historical increases. <\/p>\n
