Cynthia Nixon\u2019s wife Christine Marinoni is reportedly among the latest additions to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n
Marinoni has been hired as the chief of mass engagement at the Family and Community Empowerment office at the Department of Education, according to The New York Post.<\/a><\/p>\n More from The Hollywood Reporter<\/p>\n The gig, the Post says, is a way of rewarding Nixon for endorsing him during last year\u2019s mayoral primary, though Nixon denied to the Post that her wife was a political hire.<\/p>\n Marinoni, who the Post reported will be making $203,500 a year in her new role, previously worked as part of former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n Nixon, who wed Marinoni in 2012<\/a>, ran for governor in 2018, challenging then-governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.<\/p>\n Nixon has been an outspoken Mamdani supporter, endorsing him in the Democratic primary last year <\/a>and writing on Instagram after he won the 2025 New York City mayoral race<\/a>, \u201cI love this young man so so much! He is a miracle of nature and I would follow him to the ends of the earth (and I almost have!)\u201d<\/p>\n Marinoni helped found the Alliance for Quality Education in New York, meeting Nixon through the latter\u2019s work with the organization.<\/p>\n \u201cChristine is a longtime public servant, community organizer and education advocate\u2014precisely the experience and commitment our public schools need in leadership,\u201d a DOE spokesperson told the Post in a statement.<\/p>\n Still, a City Hall source complained about the hire to the Post, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s painfully fitting that inside Tweed Courthouse, a DSA machine reminiscent of Tammany Hall is handing taxpayer-funded jobs to the well-connected spouses of multimillionaire celebrities.\u201d<\/p>\n Nixon started dating Marinoni in 2002 after previously only dating men, she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020<\/a>, where she reflected on her coming out journey.<\/p>\n \u201cI had always dated men. I had a boyfriend for 15 years. I remember on Sex and the City, we had an episode about bisexuality and \u201cdoes bisexuality exist.\u201d They quizzed us all, and I was like, \u201cTotally.\u201d The idea of being attracted to a woman or falling in love with a woman or having sex with a woman always seemed completely within the realm of possibility \u2014 it just had never happened to me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n She and Marinoni went public with their relationship in 2004.<\/p>\n Celebrating their 14-year wedding anniversary over Memorial Day Weekend earlier this year, Nixon wrote on Instagram in part<\/a>, \u201cFalling in love with Christine was the best thing I ever did (next to having our children).\u201d<\/p>\n The New York City Department of Education has not yet responded to THR\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n Best of The Hollywood Reporter<\/p>\n Sign up for THR’s Newsletter<\/a>.
