The Prince of Wales has shared a personal childhood memory of
\nQueen Elizabeth II as the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial reaches
\na major new milestone with the launch of additional archive
\nmaterial and the first public memories of the late monarch.<\/p>\n
Prince William is among those contributing to the growing online
\nmemorial, recalling afternoons having tea with his grandmother and
\nthe late Prince Philip at Windsor Castle during his childhood.<\/p>\n
His contribution forms part of a major update to the Queen
\nElizabeth Digital Memorial, a Cabinet Office-led project launched
\nearlier this year to preserve the life and legacy of Britain\u2019s
\nlongest-reigning monarch.<\/p>\n
The latest update introduces an interactive collection of
\nmemories submitted by members of the public alongside contributions
\nfrom people who knew Queen Elizabeth II personally. The memories,
\ndrawn from across the United Kingdom, offer first-hand accounts of
\nencounters with the late Queen during her 70-year reign.<\/p>\n
Among those published is the recollection of a former RAF
\naircraft handler who spent 24 years maintaining the Queen\u2019s
\nhelicopter.<\/p>\n
The contributor remembered Queen Elizabeth joking after arriving
\nfrom a landing in a field, saying: \u201cI must apologise, they
\npicked me up in a field this morning and I\u2019ve dragged grass through
\nthe carpet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another remembered seeing the late Queen during her 2012 visit
\nto Belfast, while a further submission reflected on the dramatic
\nmoment during the 1981 Trooping the Colour parade when Queen
\nElizabeth calmly controlled her horse, Burmese, after shots were
\nfired nearby.<\/p>\n
The memorial has also added a fully digitised version of the
\nCourt Circular, providing a searchable record of every official
\nengagement undertaken by Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign
\nfrom 1952 until 2022. The project was completed with support from
\nvolunteer students using data provided by The Times.<\/p>\n
New archive material has also been added to the interactive
\ntimeline, with contributions from leading cultural and heritage
\norganisations including The National Archives, the Royal
\nCollection, the Royal Mint Museum, Royal Mail and the Press
\nAssociation.<\/p>\n
Launched on 21 April 2026, the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial
\ncombines photographs, videos, historical documents and personal
\nrecollections to create a permanent digital record of the late
\nQueen\u2019s life and service.<\/p>\n
The public is continuing to be invited to submit their own
\nmemories, with further contributions due to be published throughout
