{"id":28752,"date":"2025-11-04T22:07:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T22:07:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/28752\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T22:07:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T22:07:26","slug":"nj-election-day-bomb-threats-shut-down-polling-sites-as-mikie-sherrill-jack-ciattarelli-in-dead-heat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/28752\/","title":{"rendered":"NJ Election Day bomb threats shut down polling sites \u2014 as Mikie Sherrill, Jack Ciattarelli in dead heat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several New Jersey polling sites were closed and the voting locations moved on Election Day thanks to bomb threats, including in heavily Republican areas, while some New York City ballot centers were threatened, too, officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Law-enforcement agencies in the Garden State were tipped off about threats made to polling locations across Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Passaic counties Tuesday morning, according to the state Office of the Attorney General.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLaw enforcement officers have responded at each affected polling place, and they have worked swiftly to secure these polling locations and ensure the safety of every voter,\u201d the AG\u2019s Office said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Lodi, NJ, police and the Bergen County Sheriff\u2019s Office K9 Unit respond to Columbus Elementary School in Lodi, where a polling place was evacuated because of a bomb threat on Election Day. At others, voters will be directed to a nearby polling location to cast their ballot,\u201d the office added.<\/p>\n<p>The threats temporarily shut down polling sites at three schools in the West Orange School District, briefly booting students, staffers and voters from the buildings Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Local cops and the Essex County Bomb Squad were called to the Washington, Gregory and Hazel elementary schools, Superintendent Hayden Moore said in an email to parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe district became aware of the potential bomb threats earlier this morning and while classes had yet to begin,\u201d Moore said. \u201cTo err on the side of safety, the buildings were evacuated of voters, students and staff until the buildings were declared safe and the threat was deemed not credible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, several Big Apple polling sites were hit with threats, including in emails to poll workers at one Harlem location, according to law-enforcement sources.<\/p>\n<p>The NYPD and the FBI are investigating those incidents.<\/p>\n<p>The city threats come amid a tense mayoral race between socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner, and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent.<\/p>\n<p>A near-record turnout of nearly 2 million is expected.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were tipped off about the threats Tuesday morning. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Officials noted that all of the threats made against polling sites so far were not credible.<\/p>\n<p>The New Jersey bomb threats come in the middle of a knife-edge governor\u2019s race, with US Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/03\/us-news\/ciattarelli-may-face-uphill-climb-as-nearly-300000-more-nj-dems-vote-early-compared-to-gopers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in a dead heat with<\/a> Republican businessman and former state legislator Jack Ciattarelli.<\/p>\n<p>As of Tuesday morning, many of the impacted voting locations have been reopened, including all in Bergen \u2014 the state\u2019s most populous county.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The threats made against the polling sites were not credible, officials said. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Bergen police had investigated the threats and found all of them to be a hoax, county rep Derek Sands said in a statement, slamming the threats as \u201cmalicious, intimidation-driven acts intended to disrupt the democratic process.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill also condemned the threats as an attack on voters in a critical election, calling on residents to stay strong and head to the polls safely.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously this is an attempt to suppress the vote here,\u201d Sherrill told reporters. \u201cI don\u2019t think New Jerseyans take very kindly to that kind of tampering in our election system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In areas where the polling places have yet to reopen, workers are in place to direct voters to nearby locations to cast their ballots, Attorney General Matt Platkin said.<\/p>\n<p>Platkin\u2019s office did not respond to The Post\u2019s request for additional comment on the impacted polling sites.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Passaic County \u2014 a key swing county \u2014 heavy police presence was seen outside School 10, in Paterson, where voters are set to cast their ballots,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nj.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">NJ.com reported.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are taking the threats very seriously and we immediately evacuated the polling sites,\u201d Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the Paterson police department\u2019s patrol operation working in concert with our state and county partners, all polling sites are safe and open for voters,\u201d the mayor added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Similar disruptions were reported at schools in Woodbridge and North Brunswick, according to local media.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Newark police said they had investigated the threats following the submission of multiple phishing emails regarding the fake bomb threats in Essex county.\u00a0, <\/p>\n<p>New Jersey Lt. Gov.
