A fire tore through part of a building at 1166 Grand Concourse on Tuesday afternoon, forcing residents into the street as they tried to escape the flames, according to the FDNY.<\/p>\n
Fire officials said two people are in serious condition. Eight others suffered minor injuries, including one firefighter.<\/p>\n
The FDNY said crews were called just after 3 p.m. for a fire on the third floor of the building. It took firefighters just under an hour to bring the blaze under control.<\/p>\n
When firefighters arrived, the entire building had been evacuated. Hours later, residents began returning to find blackened walls, shattered glass and the heavy smell of smoke lingering in the air.<\/p>\n
Neighbors could be seen hugging and consoling one another as they assessed the damage.<\/p>\n
