On July 3, 2026, State Police of Brunswick arrested a 13-year-old for Jostling, a class \u201cA\u201d misdemeanor, and a 14-year-old for Grand Larceny 4th, a class \u201cE\u201d felony.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
An additional 13-year-old was also taken into custody due to an active arrest warrant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On July 3, 2026, at about 9:35 a.m., troopers responded to the Walmart located at 760 Hoosick Road in Brunswick for the report of a theft involving multiple offenders, one of which was armed with a large, bladed weapon. The investigation has determined that two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old entered the store together, at which point the 14-year-old reportedly took a machete that was for sale and concealed it inside their pants. Following that event, one of the 13-year-olds, and the 14-year-old allegedly approached an elderly customer and jostled them while the 14-year-old stole the wallet from the victim\u2019s back pocket. The victim chased the juveniles and recovered their wallet.\u00a0Upon review of the surveillance footage, it was determined the machete was never displayed during the incident.<\/p>\n
All three juveniles fled following the attempted theft. The involved 13-year-old was taken into custody walking nearby. The 14-year-old was later located with the assistance of the Troop G Community Stabilization Unit, walking in the area of the 600 block of Hoosick Street, where they were taken into custody.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The remaining 13-year-old, who was not directly involved in the theft, was located with the assistance of the Rensselaer County Sheriff\u2019s Office during a traffic stop nearby and was determined to have an active warrant for their arrest.\u00a0<\/p>\n
No one was injured during this incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
All three juveniles were transported to SP Brunswick for processing. The 13-year-old involved in the theft was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Rensselaer County Family Court and released to their guardian.
