Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission visits New York City as part of Dream Keepers Tour<\/p>\n
NEW YORK CITY \u2013 New York City is deeply ingrained in America\u2019s history, which is why for their America 250 celebration and Juneteenth celebrations, the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission felt that NYC was the perfect place to start their Dream Keepers Tour.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt felt good that I got to see it,\u201d student Braxton Scarbrough said. \u201cIt felt good to see one of the biggest pieces about America.\u201d<\/p>\n
For many on the trip, it was their first time in the Big Apple, and seeing the figure gifted to America nearly 140 years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I saw the Statue of Liberty, I just smiled,\u201d Executive Director Dushun Scarbrough said.<\/p>\n
Even over 1,000 miles away in Arkansas, the students understood the importance of what Lady Liberty represents, and what it means to see her in person.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt means a lot to be on this trip,\u201d student Zaki Cummins said. \u201cYeah, I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m here right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very cool, a cool experience and opening up to new things,\u201d student Sh\u2019maurion Walker said.<\/p>\n
The whole trip was a true pinch-me moment for these leaders of tomorrow.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing here is more thrilling than I thought it would be,\u201d student Darrius Lambery said.<\/p>\n
