{"id":289264,"date":"2026-07-07T16:19:43","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T16:19:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/289264\/"},"modified":"2026-07-07T16:19:43","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T16:19:43","slug":"news-12-bronx-snap-recipients-who-lost-food-during-storm-outages-may-qualify-for-replacement-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/289264\/","title":{"rendered":"News 12 | Bronx | Snap Recipients Who Lost Food During Storm Outages May Qualify For Replacement Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Connecticut residents who receive SNAP and lost food during the long power outages caused by Saturday\u2019s severe storm may be eligible for replacement benefits, Governor Ned Lamont announced.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Saturday\u2019s storm knocked out electricity for many households, leaving families with spoiled groceries they had already purchased.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Federal rules allow the Department of Social Services to replace SNAP benefits when food is destroyed in events like fires, floods or outages lasting at least four hours.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Governor Lamont urged residents to act quickly, saying anyone who lost food should contact DSS before the July 14 deadline. DSS Commissioner Andrea Barton Reeves added that many families are still recovering and shouldn\u2019t miss out on help simply because they didn\u2019t know it was available.<\/p>\n<p data-rich-text-paragraph=\"true\">Residents must report their losses to DSS \u2014 by phone, in person, in writing, or by submitting form W\u20111225\/W\u20111225S\u2014 no later than July 14.
