ALBANY \u2014\u00a0New York issued a driver\u2019s license to a migrant \u2014 but didn\u2019t require a first name.<\/p>\n
The revelation came as Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said a man caught up in a raid that ensnared 125 illegal immigrants in his state had a New York commercial driver\u2019s license with \u201cNo Name Given\u201d in the place of his first and middle monikers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf New York wants to hand out CDLs to illegal immigrants with \u2018No Name Given,\u2019 that\u2019s on them. The moment they cross into Oklahoma, they answer to our laws,\u201d the Republican wrote in a social media post <\/a>Monday, along with a picture of the license.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the New York DMV said the license was real. Oklahoma.gov<\/p>\n The New York Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed to The Post that the license, issued on April 14 and set to expire May 26, 2028, was real.<\/p>\n \u201cThis commercial driver\u2019s license was issued in accordance with all proper procedures, including verification of the individual\u2019s identity through federally issued documentation,\u201d DMV spokesman Walter McLure said in a statement.<\/p>\n The spokesman said the individual in question had \u201clawful status\u201d to be in the US \u201cthrough a federal employment authorization and was issued a license consistent with federal guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n He did not specify which program and what \u201cfederal issued documentation\u201d was provided to the DMV to verify the man\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n \u201cIt is not uncommon for individuals from other countries to have only one name,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n It wasn\u2019t immediately known how many similar licenses have been issued.<\/p>\n Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said authorities there apprehended a man with with a New York license that listed \u201cno name given\u201d instead of first and middle names. AP<\/p>\n Asked how the DMV knew whom Stitt\u2019s post was referencing, the spokesman said, \u201cWe know who this person is based solely on the information in the picture of the tweet.\u201d<\/p>\n McLure declined to say whether the agency was cooperating with Oklahoma\u2019s investigation.<\/p>\n \u201cDuring the operation, OHP (Oklahoma Highway Patrol) encountered numerous commercial truck drivers operating with licenses issued by sanctuary states, including one license listing \u2018No Name Given,’\u201d Stitt\u2019s office said in a statement, noting that 125 illegal immigrants were arrested in the sweep.<\/p>\n \u201cThese individuals posed a public safety risk by operating 80,000-pound commercial vehicles without proper verification,\u201d\u00a0the statement said.<\/p>\n Stitt\u2019s office didn\u2019t reply to questions from The Post and it was unclear if the individual with the \u201cno name given\u201d license was in custody or facing any charges.<\/p>\n Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who has said she\u2019ll run against Gov. Kathy Hochul in next year\u2019s gubenatorial election, put her on blast over the revelation.<\/p>\n Commercial driver\u2019s licenses are not provided under New York\u2019s \u201cgreen light law.\u201d hit1912 \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n \u201cAt every opportunity, Kathy Hochul has turned her back on New Yorkers to bend the knee to the radical Far Left of the Democrat Party that puts illegals and criminals first and hardworking law abiding New Yorkers last,\u201d the North Country congresswoman said in a statement. <\/p>\n Hochul was sued by President Trump\u2019s Department of Justice earlier this year<\/a> over New York state\u2019s \u201cgreen light law,\u201d which allows non-citizens to obtain driver\u2019s licenses.<\/p>\n The feds argued the law was a \u201cfrontal assault\u201d <\/a>on federal immigration enforcement, and the case is playing out in court.<\/p>\n The New York DMV website clearl<\/a>y<\/a> states<\/a> that individuals can\u2019t receive a CDL under the green light law.<\/p>\n Hochul\u2019s office declined to comment and referred The Post to the DMV\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n When she was a county clerk running for Congress, Hochul vehemently opposed giving driver\u2019s licenses to illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n
