{"id":289821,"date":"2026-07-08T00:18:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/289821\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T00:18:46","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T00:18:46","slug":"city-of-manhattan-considers-property-tax-changes-as-2027-budget-process-continues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/289821\/","title":{"rendered":"City of Manhattan Considers Property Tax Changes as 2027 Budget Process Continues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Press Release edited by Shea Smith \/ photo courtesy of Vivienne Leyva, Communications &amp; Marketing Manger\/PIO of City of Manhattan<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">July 7 will see City of Manhattan Commissioners considering exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate for the 2027 budget.\u00a0More budget discussion will follow before final adoption on September 15.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Revenue Neutral Rate is the property tax rate that would bring in the same amount of tax revenue as the previous year, even if property values have changed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several key issues are the focus of the rate, including rising property valuations, the City\u2019s debt obligations, service levels, and whether additional reductions are possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the city manager, property tax representation in the budget is 23.7% for City departments and services, while only 11.8% of a Manhattan resident\u2019s total property tax bill is used to fund city services and debt.
