Cundiff, 68, pleaded guilty in federal court on June 29 to assaulting a federal officer, failing to register as a sex offender and committing a crime of violence while failing to register as a sex offender, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.

Cundiff was wanted out of Massachusetts on armed robbery charges. He stabbed the investigator who was helping serve a U.S. Marshals Task Force warrant. The stabbing occurred at 2000 Lodi St. in Syracuse on Jan. 29

According to prosecutors, Cundiff was charged in Suffolk Superior Criminal Court in Massachusetts in June 2025 with multiple felonies, including armed robbery. He was released pending trial but failed to appear in court that August, prompting a warrant for his arrest.

As part of his guilty plea, Cundiff admitted he then moved from Massachusetts to Syracuse because he didn’t want authorities to find him.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, working with the New York State Police, tracked him to a Syracuse apartment. When task force members knocked on the door on Jan. 29, Cundiff answered and gave a false name before running to a back bedroom and barricading himself inside, prosecutors said.

As officers tried to open the bedroom door, Cundiff slashed a task force member’s hand with a knife, causing multiple lacerations and a fractured finger, according to the plea. He was then tased and taken into custody.

Cundiff also admitted he was required to register as a sex offender under federal law because of a 2005 Massachusetts conviction for aggravated rape, and that he knowingly failed to register after moving to New York.

“This case underscores how lenient bail restrictions put the public and law enforcement at risk; this defendant should never have been released in the first place,” First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III said in a statement.

Acting U.S. Marshal Christopher Amoia said the plea holds Cundiff accountable both for skipping sex offender registration and for the violence he used to evade arrest.

Under the plea agreement, Cundiff will serve 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and will be ordered to pay restitution to the officer he stabbed.

Cundiff is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 27 before Chief Judge Brenda K. Sannes.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to federal charges, including assaulting a federal officer in…

[6
9,11,10,49,51,50
post-290449","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-headlines","tag-new-york-news","tag-new-york-state","tag-new-york-state-headlines","tag-new-york-state-news
["GET
