New York City FC today announced that Goalkeeper Matt Freese has been named to the 2026 MLS All-Star Game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 2026 MLS All-Star Game\u00a0will take place on Wednesday, July 29\u00a0at 8pm ET\u00a0at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte,\u00a0NC.\u00a0The match will feature MLS All-Stars against All-Stars from Mexico\u2019s LIGA\u00a0MX,\u00a0marking\u00a0the third consecutive meeting and fifth overall matchup between the two\u00a0Leagues\u00a0to be broadcast on Apple TV.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Freese joined\u00a0New York City FC in 2023\u00a0and\u00a0has made 110 appearances across all competitions.\u00a0Across the MLS Regular Season and Playoffs, the Goalkeeper has recorded 323 saves and 25 clean sheets.\u00a0The\u00a0Philadelphianative\u00a0reached the Century Club milestone\u00a0in\u00a02026,\u00a0marking the Goalkeeper\u2019s 100th\u00a0appearance\u00a0across all competitions for the \u2018Boys in Blue.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
Freese has\u00a0featured\u00a0in nine MLS Cup Playoff matches for\u00a0New York City FC\u00a0and played\u00a0an important role\u00a0in\u00a0the Club\u2019s 2024 MLS Playoff run, making 14 saves and recording one clean sheet. In the third match of the Round One Best-of-3 series against FC Cincinnati, Freese made three saves in the\u00a0penalty shootout, helping the Club secure the win and advance to the\u00a0Easten Conference Semifinals.\u00a0During the 2025 MLS season, Freese anchored the team throughout the Club\u2019s playoff run, recording 13 saves and three clean sheets, helping New York City FC reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the third time in Club history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the international level, the\u00a0Pennsylvania\u00a0native\u00a0has made 19 appearances and recorded five clean sheets for the U.S. Men\u2019s National Team\u00a0(USMNT), including starts at both the\u00a0FIFA World Cup 2026 and the\u00a02025\u00a0Concacaf\u00a0Gold Cup. During the USMNT\u2019s FIFA World Cup\u00a02026\u00a0campaign, Freese started four matches and recorded two clean sheets, helping the U.S. secure wins over Paraguay, Australia, and Bosnia. During the 2025 Concacaf\u00a0Gold Cup, the Goalkeeper started every match for\u00a0the\u00a0National\u00a0Team, recording one clean sheet and\u00a0making three saves in the team\u2019s penalty shootout win against Costa Rica to help secure a place in the Semifinals of the competition.\u00a0<\/p>\n
