Most Queens events are outdoors this week, just like the last one. Some are familiar (i.e. jazz, dance, World Cup), but movies, yoga, pets, and a cutting-edge synth rave are in the mix, too. Please read on.<\/p>\n

\"\"July 10, Movie Night, 6:30 pm.<\/a> Snacks, drinks, activities, and an 8 pm screening of The Neverending Story<\/a>, a 1984 fantasy film about a young boy who finds a magical book that leads him on an adventure. Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Flushing.<\/p>\n

July 10, Prom Queens, 7 pm.<\/a> Celebrate the Poets of Queens\u2019s newest anthology with a prom-themed poetry-and-prose reading. Eight of the authors featured in the book share their work. Kew & Willow Book Shop, 81-63 Lefferts Blvd., Kew Gardens.<\/p>\n

July 10, Classical Indian + Contemporary Dance Classes, 4 pm.<\/a> The Queensboro Dance Festival continues with teachers Neela Zareen and Robert Mark Dance. Modega Studio, 11-05 44th Ave., Long Island City.<\/p>\n

July 11, Outdoor World Cup Viewing, 1 pm.<\/a> Free admission and large screen viewing of the afternoon and evening quarterfinal matches. Queens Botanical Garden, 43-50 Main St., Flushing.<\/p>\n

July 11, Public Sounds with Geller, 5 pm.<\/a> A free outdoor synthesizer performance by LA-based electronic artist and composer Geller. What began as an impromptu gathering of 50 people in Los Angeles evolved into a series that now draws thousands across multiple cities. July 11, HamletMachine by Ziwei, 5 pm.<\/a> Performance artist Ziwei offers this piece, which is inspired by Heiner M\u00fcller\u2019s cult 1977 play Die Hamletmaschine<\/a>. A body moves through the wreckage of the 20th century and the noise of the present one: Coke cans, scrolling feeds, ghostly archives, a machine generating language in the room. The performer speaks \u2014 in English, German, Mandarin, and what might be Cantonese \u2014 and moves through silences, screams, and Shakespearean jokes. 3AM Theater, 9-20 35th Ave., Long Island City.<\/p>\n

July 11, Free Movie Nights, 7 pm.<\/a> Enjoy open air and Goat<\/a>, a sports comedy about a small goat that gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot to join the pros in roarball, a high-intensity, co-ed sport dominated by fast, fierce animals. July 15, Home Front and Front Lines: 250 Years of American Service, 7:30 pm.<\/a> The opening reception for an exhibit highlighting Queens residents whose acts of service and sacrifice helped shape the American story. July 16, Opening Reception: Michaela Bathrick, 6 pm.<\/a> Michaela Bathrick finds subtle instances of expression in the functional forms of the built environment. Her sculptures\u2014primarily made of cast cement treated with soap stain\u2014seem formal, weathered, and neglected, but from other angles, they resemble letters or bits of language.
