Police are searching for a suspect wanted in connection with a series of robberies linked to Facebook Marketplace meetups across New York City, including two incidents in the Bronx.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, the suspect targeted people selling items online and arranged in-person meetings under the guise of completing a purchase. Police say three incidents have been reported so far \u2014 two in the Bronx and one in Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
In one Bronx case, a seller attempting to sell a pair of sneakers was robbed when the suspect allegedly ripped away the victim’s backpack and fled.<\/p>\n
In a second Bronx incident, police say a victim selling a Nintendo Switch handed over the gaming console after the suspect claimed there was an issue with a Zelle payment. Investigators say the victim never received the money, and the suspect left with the console.<\/p>\n
The third incident occurred in Brooklyn, where police say a man selling a watch was robbed at gunpoint after meeting two individuals over what appeared to be a payment dispute.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported in any of the three incidents.<\/p>\n
The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect and is asking for the public’s help in identifying him. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.<\/p>\n
As the investigation continues, police are reminding New Yorkers who use online marketplaces to take precautions when arranging in-person transactions. The NYPD recommends using its designated e-commerce exchange zones, located outside precincts, transit districts and police service areas throughout the city.<\/p>\n
