Marin Ireland<\/a>‘s\u00a0Pre-Existing Condition,\u00a0which enjoyed a sold-out run at\u00a0the Connelly Theater in summer 2024, will return Off-Broadway in September with a limited engagement at the Greenwich House Theater set to begin September 1.<\/p>\n

Directed by Tony nominee Maria Dizzia<\/a>, the acclaimed play will officially open September 14 for a limited engagement through October 25.<\/p>\n

A starry group of actors will alternate in the role of A: Academy Award winner and Tony nominee Lupita Nyong\u2019o (12 Years a Slave), Emmy and Golden Globe winner Edie Falco<\/a> (The Sopranos), Tony and Emmy nominee Phillipa Soo<\/a> (Hamilton<\/a>), Actor Award nominee Hari Nef (Transparent), and Tony nominee Susannah Flood<\/a> (Liberation<\/a>). The cast will also include Drama Desk Award nominee Greg Keller<\/a>, Pulitzer Prize finalist Dael Orlandersmith, and Drama Desk winner Sarah Steele, all reprising their roles from the production\u2019s run at the Connelly. Additional casting, by Taylor Williams<\/a>, will be announced shortly.<\/p>\n

The play centers on an unnamed woman, exploring the quiet challenges and everyday indignities of moving forward after a life-altering relationship.<\/p>\n

Ireland
\n and Dizzia said in a joint statement, “We are thrilled and honored to be able to
\nbring the play back at Greenwich House this fall and continue the
\ntradition of rotating the actors playing the central role. We have
\nassembled a dazzling group of women to add to the legacy of our first
\nproduction\u2014Lupita, Phillipa, Susannah, Hari, and Edie are each
\nincredibly dynamic powerhouses, bringing new and singular perspectives.
\nActors sharing the role creates a community inside this production, and
\nwe can\u2019t wait for that community to expand to audiences in September.
\nOur hope is that this play has a chance to do what theatre does best:
\nmake someone feel less alone, hold them in sacred space with others, and
\n shed light in the places we need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n

The production will also have scenic design by Cate McCrea, costume design by Enver Chakartash<\/a>, lighting design by Isabella Byrd<\/a>, and sound design by Palmer Hefferan<\/a>. The creative consultant is Anne Kauffman<\/a>, and the production stage manager is Elizabeth Allen<\/a>. Regular People serves as general managers.<\/p>\n

Pre-Existing Condition is produced by Jessica Chase (Chase This Productions<\/a>)\u00a0and\u00a0Susan Kelechi Watson<\/a> with co-producers Jesse Eisenberg<\/a>, Sterling K. Brown, Joshua Berg Creative, KingSimmo Productions LLC, Stillwater Partners On Broadway LLC, and Charlie Kaufman.<\/p>\n
