To mark 80 years of flight to the United States, British Airways<\/a> is making significant investments in its American lounges.\n<\/p>\n

On July 1, the airline announced a $15 million project to redevelop its space at Newark Liberty International Airport<\/a>. British Airways enlisted Morristown-based architecture and design firm Gensler<\/a> to lead the overhaul in Newark\u2019s Terminal B<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

The new design takes inspiration from the \u201cNew Jersey coastline and the state\u2019s industrial heritage, alongside British Airways\u2019 signature style,\u201d according to the airline.<\/p>\n

British Airways travelers can expect to find:\n<\/p>\n

A new full-service bar
\nEnhanced dining and food service areas
\nA \u201csignificantly\u201d upgraded Concorde dining space for eligible customers
\nFully refurbished bathrooms and shower facilities
\nFloor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the runway<\/p>\n

Gensler<\/a> will use locally sourced materials, furniture as well as finishes, the airline noted.\u00a0The project is expected to begin later this year, with the new lounge reopening in 2027.

On July 1, 1946, British Overseas Airways Corp.\u2019s first commercial landplane service arrived in New York\u2019s LaGuardia from London.\n<\/p>\n

Next year, British Airways also plans to kick off renovations in Boston and San Francisco. The airline has other projects planned for London Heathrow and additional U.S. airports in the U.S., too.\n<\/p>\n

The entire Terminal B<\/a> at Newark airport<\/a> is set to be replaced as part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey\u2019s EWR Vision Plan, unveiled in 2024<\/a>. The new facility is expected to open in the mid-2030s.
