Dramatic video provided by the NYPD shows the rescue of a suicidal woman Wednesday evening as she sat on a beam of the Brooklyn Bridge high above the East River.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brooklyn-bound lanes of the bridge were closed to traffic as members of the NYPD\u2019s Emergency Services, called to the scene around 7:30 p.m., climbed the beam to reach her.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor nearly an hour, they stayed with her, spoke with her, and waited for the moment they could safely pull her back from the edge,\u201d Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a statement. <\/p>\n
\u201cDon’t do it. Don\u2019t do it. Don\u2019t do it,\u201d an officer is heard saying to the woman as cops grab her.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is going to be ok,\u201d he tells her. \u201cYou\u2019re not in trouble. I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n
The unidentified woman, 31, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, the NYPD said. She was not arrested.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe care, courage, and compassion these officers showed was just extraordinary,\u201d Tisch said.<\/p>\n
