Hero NYPD<\/a> officers talked a woman to safety Wednesday night after discovering her on the Brooklyn Bridge, ready to jump, and reminded her that help was available and her life mattered.<\/p>\n

NYPD officials released the astonishing body-worn camera footage of the brave and daring rescue, showing officers from the NYPD\u2019s Emergency Services Unit (ESU) climb onto the iconic span to reach the woman in crisis who was threatening to end her life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMy name is Chris. What\u2019s your name? I just want to talk,\u201d one officer said to the woman while harnessed in on the Lower Manhattan bridge. \u201cWhat\u2019s happening today? I want to help you. That\u2019s why I\u2019m up here right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

For nearly an hour, the group of officers, including Chris, stayed with the woman, who was sitting on a cable with her feet dangling, and spoke with her.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI genuinely care. I do,\u201d Officer Chris said, comforting the despondent woman. \u201cIt\u2019s a permanent solution to a temporary problem.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

In one heart-stopping moment, the woman stood up, as if about to jump. But it gave rescuers a chance to grab her as they pleaded with her not to, and they successfully pulled her to safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The frightening scenario unfolded about halfway up the bridge, as traffic remained at a standstill on the roadway below.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch applauded the officers and their successful rescue mission in an X post Thursday morning.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThis video of a rescue last night on the Brooklyn Bridge will take your breath away,\u201d she said. \u201cHigh above the East River, NYPD ESU officers climbed onto the Brooklyn Bridge to reach a woman in crisis who was threatening to jump.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the officers stayed with the woman and spoke to her for nearly an hour, even as day turned to dusk.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe care, courage, and compassion these officers showed was just extraordinary,\u201d the commish said. \u201cMay God bless them.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Social media users flooded the X video with compliments, sharing messages of appreciation.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you NYPD ESU for your perfectly executed rescue,\u201d one person wrote.\n<\/p>\n

Others underscored Tisch\u2019s words about the daring rescue.\n<\/p>\n

The incident occurred nearly a week after another high-profile ESU mission<\/a>, when officers safely brought down a daredevil couple who climbed the Empire State Building before taking them into custody.\u00a0<\/p>\n
