In one of those crashes, he woke up with a vehicle on top of him. Now, as he finishes repairs, the state is making changes at the intersection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The New York State Department of Transportation has upgraded and added signage at the corner of State Route 126 and County Route 162 in the Town of Rutland, where the two crashes happened less than a month apart.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSometimes when you hear thunder and lightning, you jump up. You think of a big boom and something happened,\u201d Cunningham said.<\/p>\n<p>Repairs to the home<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The damage was extensive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHad to rebuild the whole wall and do underneath on the floor. Got two new overhead doors,\u201d Cunningham said.<\/p>\n<p>What the state changed<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/02\/04\/house-hit-again-by-vehicle-dot-reviewing-intersection-enhancements\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wwnytv.com\/2026\/02\/04\/house-hit-again-by-vehicle-dot-reviewing-intersection-enhancements\/\">After conducting a study<\/a>, the DOT upgraded existing signs and added new ones at the corner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThey moved this sign to over there, put the orange on top of it and added these reflective stripes,\u201d Cunningham said. \u201cIf you come across there and you can\u2019t see them signs, something is wrong \u2014 because if you come across there at night, it\u2019s lit up like a Christmas tree now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Town reaction<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Rutland Town Supervisor Logan Eddy said he is glad the state stepped in.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m glad that the state is working with the family and taking a serious look at this intersection. I also think it\u2019s just important to have this awareness of the intersection in general,\u201d Eddy said.<\/p>\n<p>What comes next<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cunningham said winter will be the real test.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019ll tell you next spring. Most every time it\u2019s been in the winter. Yeah, you know \u2014 hopefully it is, let\u2019s put it that way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WWNY.
