{"id":29294,"date":"2025-11-05T06:27:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T06:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/29294\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T06:27:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T06:27:07","slug":"local-2025-nyc-general-election-races-heres-what-we-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/29294\/","title":{"rendered":"Local 2025 NYC general election races: Here&#8217;s what we know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Election Day for the November general election is over in New York City.<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers cast\u00a0votes for mayor, Public\u00a0Advocate\u00a0and city comptroller, as well as City Council members and borough presidents.\u202f<\/p>\n<p>Zohran Mamdani <a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/all-boroughs\/news\/2025\/11\/05\/nyc-mayoral-race-november-general-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">will become\u00a0the 111th mayor<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s\u00a0a recap of what happened in some of the local races on election night.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>City Council races<br \/>\nAldebol flips Bronx district back to blue<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Shirley Aldebol is the projected winner in the race for City Council District 13 in the Bronx. According to the Associated Press, with more than 89% of the expected vote in, Aldebol had 51.7% of the vote, incumbent Kristy Marmorato had 46.3% of the votes and Joel Rivera, who ran as an independent candidate, had 2.1% of votes.<\/p>\n<p>Marmorato became the Bronx&#8217;s first Republican elected official in 20 years when she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ny1.com\/nyc\/bronx\/news\/2023\/11\/08\/kristy-marmorato-marjorie-vel-zquez-bronx-city-council-race\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unseated<\/a> Democrat Marjorie Velazquez two years ago. She was one of just six Republicans in the council.<\/p>\n<p>District 30 in Queens<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Phil Wong is the projected winner for City Council District 30 in Queens. According to the AP, with more than 87% of the expected vote in, Wong had 55.2% of votes, while Republican Alicia Vaichunas had 44.8%.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent Bob Holden is term-limited.<\/p>\n<p>District 47 in Brooklyn<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Kayla Santosuosso is the projected winner for City Council District 47 in Brooklyn. According to the AP, with more than 88% of the expected vote in, Santosuosso had 59.4% of votes, while Sarantopoulos\u00a0had 40.6% of votes.<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent Justin Brannan is term-limited.<\/p>\n<p>Other races<\/p>\n<p>Incumbent Jumaane Williams is the projected winner for Public Advocate, Spectrum News projects. According to the AP, with more than 89% of the expected vote in, Williams had 72.9% of votes, Republican Gonzalo Duran had 24.9% of votes and Marty Dolan, who ran as an independent candidate on \u201cThe Unity\u201d Party line, had 2.3%.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Mark Levine is the projected winner for city comptroller, Spectrum News projects. According to the AP, with more than 89% of the expected vote in, Levine had 75.1% of votes, Republican Peter Kefalas had 22.8% of votes and Ismael Malav\u00e9 P\u00e9rez, who ran as an independent candidate on &#8220;The Unity&#8221; Party line, had 2.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Democrat Brad Holyman-Sigal is the projected winner for Manhattan borough president, Spectrum News projects. According to the AP, with more than 99% of the expected vote in, Holyman-Sigal had 80.9% of votes, Republican Seson Adams had 17% of votes and Rolando Gomez, who ran as an independent, had 2.1%.<\/p>\n<p>Four incumbent borough presidents &#8211; Vanessa Gibson in the Bronx, Antonio Reynoso in Brooklyn, Donovan Richards in Queens and Vito Fossella on Staten Island &#8211; are the winners of their respective elections, Spectrum News projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Election Day for the November general election is over in New York City.
