An NYPD inspector pleaded not guilty to attempted rape of a subordinate and other charges Friday.<\/p>\n
Jeremy Scheublin was the commanding officer of the 46th precinct in the Bronx at the time.<\/p>\n
The arraignment comes a day after a female sergeant and two female officers in the same precinct sued Scheublin\u2019s replacement, Juan O. Moran, for alleged sexual harassment and retaliation. The 46th precinct encompasses the Fordham, Morris Heights and Mount Hope sections of the Bronx.<\/p>\n
The Bronx district attorney\u2019s office said Scheublin sexually assaulted a female subordinate in his office at the precinct in January 2025. The next day, he told the subordinate that \u201cthe last person who made accusations against me, it didn\u2019t go well for them,\u201d according to prosecutors.<\/p>\n
A grand jury indicted Scheublin on eight counts, including first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse, forcible touching and official misconduct. Justice Laurence Busching set bail at $25,000 cash or $75,000 bond.<\/p>\n
Scheublin\u2019s defense attorney, Oliver Storch, said in an email that his client\u2019s accuser is not credible and had ulterior motives for her allegations.<\/p>\n
Bronx DA Darcel Clark said in a statement that members of the NYPD \u201care held to the highest standards of integrity and conduct\u201d and called the allegations against Scheublin \u201cdeeply disturbing.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAlleged abuses of power of this nature demand a thorough investigation and vigorous prosecution,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The NYPD\u2019s Internal Affairs Bureau referred the case to the Bronx DA\u2019s office in January 2025, following a department investigation. A spokesperson said the NYPD has suspended the inspector without pay.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe NYPD conducts thorough investigations into any allegation that a member of the department failed to meet those standards \u2014 and that\u2019s exactly what happened here,\u201d the spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Scheublin joined the department in 2002. He served as the commanding officer of the 46th precinct from December 2023 to December 2025, which means he continued to oversee the precinct for almost a year after the case was referred to the DA\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The inspector has been the subject of four civilian complaints, none of which were substantiated. The complainant in a 2013 alleged incident was uncooperative, while the Civilian Complaint Review Board didn\u2019t complete an investigation into a 2025 allegation of threat of force due to budget constraints, according to police watchdog records. Scheublin has received more than 30 awards for meritorious or excellent police duty over the years, according to NYPD records.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Sgt. Osmairys Avila and Officers Pamela Sosa and Brittany Romero, all of the 46th precinct, filed a human rights lawsuit against Moran, who became the precinct\u2019s commanding officer after Scheublin.<\/p>\n
The female members of service accused Moran of sexually harassing them in various ways, including giving an unwanted tight hug, making sexual comments and untying a knot securing one of the officer\u2019s dresses. Eric Sanders, a lawyer representing Avila, Sosa and Romero described the 46th precinct as a \u201csexually compromised command.\u201d<\/p>\n
A department spokesperson said internal affairs is investigating Moran and did not provide additional comment on the lawsuit against him. The union that represents inspectors did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit, and attorney information for Moran was not immediately available.
