The Knicks already lived through the Randle rebuild experience, and now Brooklyn is asking him to do a version of it again.

Randle talked this weekend about the similarities between joining the Nets and the job he once had with the Knicks. He said there are similarities, then pointed to the experience he has now compared to when he first came to New York.

He is not wrong. Randle arrived in 2019 when the Knicks were trying to look like a serious NBA team again. It was messy, loud, imperfect, and useful. He gave them a regular-season engine, a nightly identity, and enough force to drag the franchise out of the truly embarrassing years.

Now the Knicks are the champions, which changes the whole read. Randle is not the symbol of where they are going anymore. He is a reminder of what it took to get them out of the mud.

The Knicks part Randle knows too well

Brooklyn is coming off a 20-62 season, and Randle can help stabilize that kind of room. He averaged 21.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists last season, so nostalgia is not driving the analysis here. He can still score, pass, draw attention, and make young players’ nights easier.

Credit: Brenden Willsch-Imagn Images via Reuters Connect

The question is how much that matters in a city where the Knicks have already reached the mountaintop. Brooklyn can talk itself into Randle as a mentor, a scorer, and a bridge to respectability. Fair enough. Knicks fans can also shrug a little, because they have seen the movie and know the rough scenes too.

Randle said he is 13 years in and used to trade talk after playing in New York. That part matters. The Nets can use someone who will not get knocked sideways by local pressure or daily rumors.

Brooklyn gets the useful version if it listens

The best version of this for Brooklyn is not Randle trying to be a savior. It is Randle helping young players understand pace, spacing, physicality, and what regular-season professionalism looks like when losses start piling up.

The Knicks should not be bothered by that. They have Jalen Brunson, a title, and a core that already passed the test Randle helped prepare the franchise for years ago.

If Brooklyn wants the old Knicks climb, Randle can help start it. The funny part for Knicks fans is they already got the ending he was chasing.

[36
98,100,99,9,24,63
post-293943","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn","tag-brooklyn-headlines","tag-brooklyn-news","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc
["GET
