{"id":294917,"date":"2026-07-13T21:59:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T21:59:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/294917\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T21:59:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T21:59:08","slug":"knights-honor-grand-marshal-at-pre-parade-mass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/294917\/","title":{"rendered":"Knights honor grand\u00a0marshal at\u00a0pre-parade Mass"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deacon\u00a0John Heyer, the pastor associate at Sacred Heart and St. Stephen Church,125 Summit St., Brooklyn, the owner of the Scotto Funeral Home and development officer for Futures in\u00a0Education, was the grand marshal for the June 28 Brooklyn American Independence Day Parade.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The pre-parade 11 a.m. Mass was held at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 245 Prospect Park West in Park Slope, where Pastor Rev.\u00a0Lawrence D.\u00a0Ryan\u00a0conducted the service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"679\" height=\"1024\" data-id=\"228461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Dono-679x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228461\"  \/>Donald Dono receives the Father Brogan Award from Ed Clancy and Eddie Velinski.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"491\" data-id=\"228458\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/officials-1024x491.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228458\"  \/>Top Knights of Columbus officials in the front row.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately following the mass, Deacon Heyer and fellow honoree\u00a0Charles Salvatore Dono, a civic activist, Dept. of Sanitation worker and membership chairman of the Brooklyn District of the Greater NYC Boy Scouts of America, were presented with plaques and parade sashes by Long Island Assembly Faithful Navigator\u00a0Eddie Velinski\u00a0and parade chairman Ed Clancy. Dono\u2019s honorarium was as a recipient of the Father John F. Other board officers include Vice President\u00a0John Farrell, Treasurer\u00a0Craig Eaton\u00a0and Secretary\u00a0Brian Dolan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other Fort Hamilton news:\u00a0Trevor Loew,\u00a0who has been serving as director of the Army Garrison\u2019s MWR services unit for many years, has been promoted to the base\u2019s new deputy garrison commander.
