Dramatic body camera footage released by the NYPD shows a Harbor Unit officer jumping into Newtown Creek in Queens to rescue a woman who was struggling to stay afloat. After throwing her a flotation device, the officer swam to the woman and safely guided her back to the patrol boat, where she received medical attention.<\/p>\n

The New York <\/a>Police Department (NYPD) released dramatic body camera footage on Sunday showing an officer heroically rescuing a woman who was drowning in a creek in Queens<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Officials said the NYPD Harbor Unit responded to a 911 call reporting that a woman had fallen into Newtown Creek.<\/p>\n

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the woman clinging to a wooden piling as she struggled to stay afloat.<\/p>\n

The video shows officers attempting to rescue her from their boat, but they were unable to move any closer because of the pilings that surrounded her in the water.<\/a><\/p>\n

Seconds later, one of the officers threw a life-saving flotation device at the woman. Without hesitation, the officer jumped into the murky water and swam to her.<\/p>\n

The woman received medical assistance after she was saved by the NYPD officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Using the flotation device, the officer pulled the woman back to the boat, where another officer helped lift her aboard.<\/p>\n
