Yonkers police are investigating a burglary at a family-owned business.<\/p>\n
It happened early Monday at La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market on Central Park Avenue in Yonkers.<\/p>\n
“It’s heartbreaking. It’s a lot of work for someone to just come in and take it,” says Tanyi Arriaga, who owns La Hacienda Meat and Grocery Market with her family.<\/p>\n
The owners of the business tell News 12 that someone broke through the front glass doors, stole a safe and pried open cash registers, taking off with money.<\/p>\n
The family says it happened within minutes.<\/p>\n
“Thankfully, no one was injured. No one was in the store,” Arriaga tells News 12.<\/p>\n
The exact amount taken is still being figured out, but the family says they know it’s enough to really impact them.<\/p>\n
“This all to somebody might not seem like a big deal. For us, it’s huge because we’re a family-owned business, we all chip in here,” Arriaga explains.<\/p>\n
Detectives are actively investigating, according to Yonkers police.<\/p>\n
The business has been around for several years and has become a beloved part of the community. It was the product of a long-time dream.<\/p>\n
“Trying to figure out the next step is probably going to be the toughest part. Right now, it’s clean up, try to figure out, can we open?
