Last week, construction commenced for a $71.5-million affordable housing development<\/a> in Brooklyn’s Broadway Triangle neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The project, located at 667 Flushing Avenue and 31 Bartlett Street, will create 78 homes in two ground-up buildings on city-owned land. The project is the second phase of a development that will eventually create 390 homes.<\/p>\n

Dubbed Bartlett Crossing, the project is being developed by Unified Neighborhood Partners, a joint venture of Brooklyn-based nonprofit organizations St. Nicks Alliance<\/a>, Southside United HDFC\u2013Los Sures<\/a>, RiseBoro Community Partnership<\/a>, and United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cBartlett Crossing transforms vacant land into affordable housing in one of Brooklyn’s most vibrant communities,\u201d said Governor Hochul in a news release. \u201cThis is the type of development that demonstrates what can be accomplished when government and community partners work together to put unused public land to work to create housing that reflects the needs and diversity of all New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Plans call for a mix of studio, one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, restricted to households earning up to 80 percent of the area median income level. Approximately eight units will be filled by referrals from the Housing Preservation & Development Department’s Homeless Services unit.<\/p>\n

Magnusson Architecture and Planning<\/a> is designing the project.<\/p>\n

The project is being financed by multiple public sources.<\/p>\n
